As the core component of information technology, small sensors have attracted wide attention.
The Fifth Plenary session of the 19th CPC Central Committee, which successfully concluded yesterday, studied proposals on the formulation of the 14th five-year Plan and the long-term goals for 2035. Among them, strengthening independent innovation and tackling key technologies of the card neck is the top priority, and the sensor is one of the goals of "card neck" technology. At the same time, the United States also recently announced the "key and emerging technology national strategy", high-end sensors ranked one of the 20 technologies in its technology strategy list. As the core component of information technology, small sensors have attracted wide attention.
At the scene of major science and technology exhibitions, the most popular among the audience is all kinds of robots represented by robot dogs that can jump freely. And maybe you don't know, behind the superb skills of these robots are inseparable from small sensors.
The Da Vinci surgical robot, an amazing soldier in the medical device industry, has more than 400 sensors; the famous Boston robot dog, which can turn and jump freely, needs more than 1300 sensors. Bosch's factory collaborative robot assistant APAS also has hundreds of sensors built in. It can be said that the digital pace of the whole world will rely on the support of sensor technology.

Some experts predict that during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, my country's smart sensor industry will make major breakthroughs in technological innovation and industrial scale, design and manufacturing technology innovation capabilities will be greatly improved, and the industrial scale will exceed 100 billion yuan, becoming a support for the industrial Internet and A new basic industry for intelligent manufacturing.
The prospect is promising, but from a realistic point of view, as one of the core technologies of the digital economy, there are still obstacles to the industrialization of sensors that need to be broken. We should attach great importance to it from a strategic perspective, and use sensors as a starting point to overcome the key technology of "stuck neck". Has become more urgent.
1. strategic positioning needs to be reconsidered
What is a sensor?
Sensors are the source of data collection, and they are everywhere. The situational awareness required at the forefront of intelligence basically starts with sensors. Whether it is smart manufacturing, smart cities, smart medical care, etc., or smart devices and big data analysis, no matter how large the smart system is, it must start from the tip of the sensor.
Talking about the importance of sensors, Guo Yuansheng, deputy director of the Central Science and Technology Committee of the Jiu San Society and vice chairman of the China Sensor and Internet of Things Industry Alliance, said in an interview with a reporter from the People's Political Consultative Conference that if a person is regarded as a complete information system, then The information that the facial features and skin interact with the outside world is "data information", and the sensory organ is the data acquisition device, which is the core of data acquisition. In reality, the corresponding physical device is the sensor product, so the sensor is also called "electronic five senses"; 5G and other communication technologies are called the human nervous system; the computer is called the human brain, responsible for and undertake data processing functions.
The information technology is composed of three technologies: perception, transmission and processing, namely, computer technology, communication technology and sensor technology. The hardware of information system is composed of three technologies plus information storage, feedback and execution, and the information transmitted in the whole system is "data". The "report card" of China's economy in the third quarter has just been released. Among them, the growth rate of the information industry is outstanding. It can be predicted that the information industry will become one of the important driving forces of China's economic growth in the future. At the same time, of the 22 technologies announced by the United States that are critical to the country's long-term security and economic prosperity, 6 are directly related to sensor technology. Thus, the importance of the sensor is self-evident.
However, the development of local sensors in China is still not optimistic.
Lai Hongbo, an associate professor at the School of Management of the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology and a special researcher at the Yangtze River Sankei Think Tank of Nanjing University, said that compared with the more than 20000 product varieties produced in the world, China can only produce about 1/3 of them, and the overall technical content is also low. At the same time, the domestic sensor market demand is tens of billions of yuan, and the annual import value is not less than 170 billion yuan. More than 95% of the market share of sensors such as automobiles or scientific instruments is in the hands of foreign-funded enterprises.
"in order to truly achieve great stride development during the 14th five-year Plan period, sensors should be upgraded to the height of national strategy for re-understanding, so that value can return and receive its due attention." Guo Yuansheng believes that "like supporting integrated circuits and display technology, the strategic position of sensors should be highlighted in the national strategic planning, and corresponding supporting policies, such as special support, tax relief, market access, etc., should be given continuous support to make up for the lack of industrial technology and policies, and strive to achieve high-quality development of the sensor industry during the 14th Five-Year Plan period."

2. accurately break the problem from the industrial system and chain.
It is understood that the sensor technology itself is not difficult, but why is it still subject to people?
In response, Lai Hongbo said that on the one hand, sensor products are different from ordinary component products. Sensor products, including chips and ceramic substrates, are not made by sensor enterprises themselves and must be provided by upstream supporting enterprises. For this reason, sensor enterprises themselves need to have the ability to integrate technology and cooperate with upstream supply chain enterprises to complete it. On the other hand, the sensor production process, technical points, complex processes, involving material control, process control, etc., increase the difficulty of supply chain coordination, known as "industrial art", local enterprises in the past habit of imitation innovation and reverse learning in the sensor production process is limited, can not be used.
In addition, the word "scattered" has also become a major shackle restricting industrial development.
Guo Yuansheng told reporters, "judging from the current situation in our country, the existing sensor enterprises are scattered all over the country, and it is difficult to coordinate the industrial chain. At the same time, because the production process of the sensor itself is complicated, the technical points are numerous, the tooling and fixture are unique, and the equipment is expensive. In addition, the scale of the enterprise is small, and it is difficult to gather and cultivate talents. All these have led to industrialization in a long-term 'awkward' and 'helpless' situation. Lack of specifications and standards from R & D design, functional indicators, shape structure and application scenarios. What's more, confusing sensors with integrated circuit products, technologies, and processes, and classifying them into integrated circuits has led to long-term lack of industrial policy tilt and support."
Another outstanding issue is the issue of cooperation and trust.
It is understood that at present, the total size of the domestic and foreign sensor market has exceeded 187 billion US dollars last year, and is growing at an average rate of more than 10%, and the market in some areas is showing explosive growth. However, there are obstacles that are difficult to overcome between manufacturers and users, and their understanding of technology and the needs of each other are not the same, so it is difficult to find effective methods and ways to connect and break through.
"For example, from the user's point of view, there are technical parameters and structural choices that are unpredictable, which is difficult to understand for a while, leading to the phenomenon of'not use' and'dare not use. From the production point of view, manufacturers are not sure about the scene data model of market application, the product lacks flexible design from structure to performance, it is difficult to provide personalized and accurate parameter indicators, and it is also difficult to understand what users need to use, how to use it and why to choose it. From a technical point of view, the scene and state in reality are dynamic, changeable and complex. What parameters to take is not only considered from the perspective of on-site needs, but also the overall design of the system. Therefore, in the data collection site, there are frequent occurrences of different opinions and opinions on the selection of sensor types, structures and parameters. It can be described as a'southern and northern tune', or even a'southern difference', with great differences." Guo Yuansheng said frankly that users also have great prejudice and differences in the treatment of domestic enterprises and products. Under the same circumstances, users often choose foreign products whose prices are much higher than those of domestic enterprises.
It can be seen that the obstacles and bottlenecks between production and use are still a major obstacle to the development of sensor industrialization. To this end, Guo Yuansheng said that sensor products must not only develop in the direction of normalization, standardization, intelligence, and networking of parameter indicators, but also establish a collaborative innovation relationship between production and use, and establish mutual trust between industries and applications. The information channel and technology research and development platform for mutual communication and communication remove obstacles on the road for the development of sensor industrialization.
Lai Hongbo also said that it is necessary to strengthen and lead the cooperation between upstream and downstream enterprises, including upstream supply chain enterprises, downstream supporting enterprises, and end users. They should be market and application oriented, cooperate in the development of reliable sensors, and jointly find a breakthrough path in the field of sensor "stuck neck" technology.

3. innovation should be market and application oriented
Industrial breakthroughs are inseparable from innovation, but innovation must eventually go out of the altar and be market and application-oriented.
Although the sensor is a multi-disciplinary, multi-technology, multi-field fusion body, involving physics, chemistry, biology basic disciplines, from the sensitive mechanism, process technology, structural design, finished product testing, market application and other whole industry chain process, almost with materials, machinery, electronics, mathematics, computer software and hardware, measurement, semiconductor and other secondary disciplines are closely related, the production process is also extremely complex, however, the pursuit of high-precision, high-reliability, and high-stability indicators will greatly increase the technical difficulty of the production process and the level and ability of industrialization. If the economic benefits do not go up, the innovation achievements will have little effect, which will naturally affect the innovation power of the main body of the market.
Guo Yuansheng pointed out that it is a common problem in the field of scientific research that sensors pursue high precision in a single way and set new standards to make products to the extreme. However, in supporting markets and application scenarios, what is often needed is reliability and stability indicators, as well as requirements for the cost of use. He believes that a single device multi-functional composite and multiple device integration will be the trend of sensor technology innovation and development, so as to make up for the one-sided pursuit of high precision, to increase the difficulty of industrial scale production, so as to reduce the difficulty of high-precision production and finished product testing costs, improve the economic benefits of scale production.
Lai Hongbo said that we can further focus on the application scenario and choose the direction of industrial chain breakthrough. For example, focusing on the industrial advantages in the fields of semiconductors, new energy vehicles, aerospace equipment, ships, high-end CNC machine tools, industrial robots, and high-performance medical devices and scientific instruments, guide all sectors of society to participate in the development of sensors for specific application scenarios, and even adopt "Unveiling the list and leading the way" to integrate domestic and foreign enterprises and talents to participate in the R & D and production process.
In short, sensors are the underlying technology and one of the core technologies in the digital economy era, and there is a great demand for products. In view of the current international environment, it is very necessary to improve the cooperation level of the sensor industry chain, integrate upstream and downstream technologies, take the initiative to attack, make great efforts to supplement the chain and strengthen the chain, and find the fixed-point research and breakthrough direction of the "stuck neck" technology with weak points such as sensors.
